The Inspiration Behind “Heaven Fiya” (2011 mixtape)
“The Heaven Fiya (e.g., fire) mixtape was inspired by God burning away and purging many things out of my life, that in hindsight, I realize I never needed. There was a definite stripping away of wrong attitudes about my life, my future, and my walk with God; this lead to a renewed sense of love and peace, as well as a strengthening and fortification of what I believe to be my purpose – preaching the word of God through Gospel Hip Hop/Rap music.

I used to be overly zealous about a lot of things, especially where it concerned my family, finances, and what avenues I would take, to get ahead in life. I fell into a lot of traps, and pot holes while trying to beat the rat race. God however, took all of those burdens away, and the Heaven Fiya mixtape was my way of expressing this newfound freedom. God showed me how to rely solely on Him!

The prophet Jeremiah said, “His word is in my heart like a fire, a fire shut up in my bones. I am weary of holding it in; indeed, I cannot.” (Jeremiah 20:9b). So when I think about all of the hard ships, and the toil, the tests, and everything the LORD allowed me to go through, I realize the fire of God wasn’t designed to hurt me, but to refine me.

Fire is used for a lot of things; it cooks, boils, warms, rises up, and destroys things. Yes, all of these characteristics of fire are the most common, and most notable, but fire is at its best is when it’s used to purify. Even more so, when God uses His holy, spiritual fire to purify His own; hence the title of the mixtape, “Heaven Fiya.”

This mixtape was not created to show off my rhyming skills, or even showcase me as an artist, really. It was created to restore people's hearts and minds to Christ, and also to allow others to see what Jesus can do when given a chance to shine in someone's life.

We make our own destiny through following God's purposes."
